The Walkabout Clearwater Chorus
"Voices together for a cleaner, healthier, and more peaceful environment."
One of Walkabout's best-known activities is our People's Chorus -- a group of volunteer musicians who sing of the Hudson and other rivers, and the people who work on them or live along them. We encourage our listeners to sing along, often dissolving the distinction between performers and audience. And in the process we usually manage to sneak in a bit of education and motivation, and raise a few dollars for Clearwater. (Between Chorus honorariums and Coffeehouse income, Walkabout has raised almost $40,000 since its inception!)
We perform once or twice a month at festivals, rallies, and concerts throughout the tri-state area and beyond. Our repertory covers a wide range of folk songs, many written or adapted by our members, with themes of environmental conservation, peace, racial harmony and social justice, not to mention a few old sea chanteys.
For those who want to know how we got started, a brief history of the Chorus has been added to this page.
